The story presents a dramatic example of a woman named Mara, a young Roman woman who moved to the United States with Dragus, her 9-year-old son. After moving to America, she seems to be going through a series of very bad things through her problems with babysitting and her bad meeting with the US immigration official, as well as dealing with the bank to get a loan with her husband, where things seem to take an unexpected turn at Mara.

This is not a film for the faint of heart, but the issues it presents can not go unnoticed.December 19, 2018
The acting is solid all around, with Manovici offering a dazzlingly nuanced performance mingling innocence, charisma and deer-in-the-headlights desperation.November 13, 2018
Ioana Uricaru's Lemonade finds some of the Romanian spirit lost in translation, but makes for a striking first feature centered on the desperation of the immigrant experience.February 26, 2018
An engaging and harrowingly topical drama.August 29, 2018

Uricaru's over-egged and dramatically misfiring debut feature stretches credibility, and patience with its characters, to such a degree as to largely undo its potential.February 25, 2018
"Lemonade" remains effective and agitating precisely where it needs to be, while the subtleties of Manovici's performance, clouding her ingenue-like appearance with flashes of hard-lived savvy, keep the drama on edge.May 08, 2018
Uricaru's powerful film is one that should be seen by all, showcasing the idea that, though America is not quite the shining beacon that it once was, if there are still those that look out for each other, perhaps there is but a glimmer of hope.
